Presented as a technical reform aimed at streamlining administrative procedures, this proposal from the European Commission actually represents a historic setback for the protection of human health and the environment in the face of the dangers posed by pesticides and biocides.
Ten Omnibus packages with a year: a deregulation machine
Since the 2024 European elections, which resulted in the European Parliament having the most right-wing composition in its history—largely due to an exceptional surge in support for the far right—the European Commission has proposed ten “Omnibus packages” in less than a year. These texts, presented as mere administrative streamlining measures, simultaneously amend several existing regulations and directives without any health or environmental impact assessment.
